I am a new owner of a 1990 Cougar LS. I was looking at some of the features and noted the door lock/unlock buttons. I was reading up on this in the manual and found that you can program your own codes. Reading further, I found that the codes that are originally programed are needed to re-program your own. The problem is, all of the locations that the manual say to look for the OEM code are missing. There was supposed to be something taped inside the trunk or on owners cards. Obviously, this is a 14 year old car and I am not the original owner.....The question I have....Is there some generic code that will allow me to access the code changing feature or are these little buttons on the side of the car now useless?

Unfortunately, no the factory code is hardwired into the computer. Try looking all under the seats and carpet for the code, sometimes the owners would hide them there. The code in the trunk was on a metal tab, so it would last without rotting away. I'm sorry and I hope you find a clue to the code. It is a five digit number by the way.
