1999 Cougar V8 Conversion?

Has anyone successfully installed a small block V8 and done the rear wheel drive conversion in a 1999-2002 Cougar?

I don't know if this has been beaten the death in other threads, but couldn't find anything about it. I am looking for a web site, blog, photos or how to if possible.

I am currently rebuilding a 5.0l HO w/T5 from a Mustang LX and have the whole car of donor parts, suspension, rear-end, brakes, wheels etc. I also have an opportunity to pick up a 1999 Cougar with a ratched V6 in it. The car is tidy and the interior is in great shape.

Gotta love the styling of the car and I am handy at welding and engineering. Any links would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Re: 1999 Cougar V8 Conversion?

just speculation, but that v6 barely fits under that little hood. the mustang LX has a tall intake, so tall that they had to modify it when they stuck the 5.0 into the '94 and '95 mustang body.
I have a '97 2v 4.6l GT and my fiance has a '99 v6 cougar, i can't imagine ever getting that engine under her hood.
Good luck tho

Drag Cougar [Archive] - NECO Forums

This should get you pointed in the right direction. The right idea would be to build a pretty wicked chassis to hold what you want. This is regardless of strictly street or race use. You wouldnt wanna get some half assed conversion out on the street and run into an innocent lady with her kids in the car, obviously. And if its not done right, any track in their right mind isnt gonna let you run it anyway. It has been done, so dont get discouraged. I always liked the idea of a Mustang V6 with a turbo in a new edge Cougar, myself. But this link is a gateway to more links, which should be of service to ya. Let us know how it all goes.
