I threw in a new battery and the starter clicks but it seems like it drains the battery, as far as I can tell all the grounds are in the right spot and connected but I still can't figure out that wire with the gray connector any help???

Is the starter the same one that matches the original flywheel ? I.e you haven't used the starter from the auto . which may have a different pinion . Take it the engine turns over o.k by hand ? Could test starter off car to eliminate that .

The starter is the one that came off the 5 speed so they do match, the engine turns fine by hand. I went to start it and the battery seems like it drains and just clicks, its like it doesn't have enough juice to them it over

i had a volt meter hooked onto the battery when the key was off it was reading 12-13 volts when the key was in acc and on position it was still reading 12-13 volts, but when i went to start it the meter dropped to 5-6 volts, so it has to be grounding out somewhere right??

It could be a conneectio and t's also possible that the starter is drawing too much currant. If the starter was good before, it's probably a connection. If you set the voltmeter on the battery post and not the cable, That would mean a high draw and not a connection. Try that with the jumper battery and see waht it reads.
