Here's the mix;
I have a 68 Cougar. The original 302 is on the floor. Currently in the Cougar is a freshly rebuilt, '74, 302 with the original C4 tranny. I'm not happy with the setup. I now have 1990 Lincoln Mark VII with the 5.0L HO and the AOD tranny. I plan on dropping the 5.0L and AOD in the Cougar. Before I do, I would like to know if the short block from the '74 302 is the same as the 5.0L short block? Will the top end of the 5.0L fit onto the 302? Will the cam from the 5.0L work in the 302? Will the AOD mate to the 302?

Any advise??

That's a roller cam short block on the Lincoln; while the heads would fit, the cam swap would be a bit more problematic. I'd swap the whole engine except the oil pan and pickup rather than mixing and matching parts.
