Hey all-

This is my first post here and I want to say that I've already learned quite a bit by browsing around. I have a problem with my blower that I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

First off:
1996 Mercury Cougar XR7
3.8 V6

My blower fan went out. Well, most of the time that is.

Over the summer is started to go out, but it would come back on if I went over a bump. Now, it's mostly dead. It will come back on once in awhile, so I know it isn't a blown fuse.

With winter here, we obviously need the defrost to work.

There is a recall out for the AIR CONDITIONER:ELECTRONIC CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE
1996 Mercury Cougar Xr7 recalls, safety ratings at CARFAX

I called my local dealer and was told that nothing was listed for my car. I'm not sure if the two are related or not.

I'm wondering what my options are for this? How can I tell if the blower is bad or if it's something else? Is the blower easy to get to to replace? (I assume it's under the right passenger side dash). Anything else I'm missing?

Blower motor resistor is a common problem. It is usually located on the 'box' for the blower. They are usually pretty cheap ($15.00)
