I have a 99 cougar and I have a check engine light on. The dealer says that it's a bad bank 1 pre-cat. It currently runs fine but the cat could fall apart at any moment and clog it up. What is the cheapest way to get this replaced or is there a better aftermarket system on the market that can eliminate the 2 pre-cats and still be 50 state legal?

I was quoted 1400 bucks just to replace it. Thinking about getting a quote somewhere else but want all of my options.
