Cougar Misfire

Hi All

New to this forum and very interesting reading so far..

I've just bought 2001 Cougar 2.5ltr and it has a misfire, so before I spend a fortune on parts could anyone offer some advice please..

Symptom
The misfire is only noticeable during acceleration and deceleration between about 1500 and 2500 rpm, does not cut out just stumbles noticeably when cruising it runs fine

After reading this forum I believe it may be down to one of four things as follows:-

1. Plugs (Now Changed) better on Idle but still the same
2. HT Leads
3. Coil-pack
4. Idle Air Valve unit

As these part are very expensive from Fords has anyone been able to pin point this sort of fault before..

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks
