I am curious about import potential of this car. I know Ford Australia is targeting the Focus and all it's variants for that segment of the market, and hopefully also the Fiesta for the baby-car market, but I was wondering if the Puma was a viable option as well.
In a country where Fords such as the Focus on all it's guises, the Mondeo, the Cougar, the Galaxy (MPV - why are they doing a Focus MPV when this model already exists?) and the Fiesta are quite prevalent, the gorgeous Puma is also a common sight on UK roads. Of all the models I just mentioned, the Puma is by far the BEST looking of them all. I'd go as far as saying if Ford Australia made these for sale, I'd buy one to sit beside my Falcon.
I realise Ford Aus. would need to go through all the necessary procedures to get this car on sale locally, but I think it would be a reasonably popular model if it was made available. I'm disappointed the Puma isn't available as a hire car from Hertz, otherwise I would have done everything in my power to drive one of these, but even after 1.5 weeks of being here in the UK they still turn my head, especially the black ones!
I guess I could import one, but I'd prefer to see Ford Aus. make these another option for Australian car buyers - what chance of that?

Would you fit in it? Actually, I'd love to see laminge drive one around! :oo1: :s3 With me in the passenger seat the car would look really lowered, and then when we'd get out it would spring back up to its normal ride height (hopefully...).
Anyway, back on topic, yes they are a very good looking car. I've seen them in Europe as well. Some of the European cars (not just Fords) are very sexy. Shame they're build for munchkins, though.
Do a search on the web for the Top Gear 1997 car of the year video when Tiff Needle takes the Puma for one of his famous test drives! Bloody amazing !!

Does Ford Australia really need another Capri/Probe/Cougar? Hasn't experience shown that the small front wheel drive coupe market is the home to cheap cars like the Lancer, Celica, Protons and all that stuff?
I personally think that the Puma is a beautiful little car, and the Cougar is a favorite of mine also. I do believe though that the Puma would be another Probe/Cougar in the sales department unless the price was dropped to beat cars like the Lancer/Accent...
*shrugs* There are alot of Ford cars that I wouldlove to see here, especially the Lincoln Town Car *drools*
Cheers

LOL, what a cool vid. That guy is a maniac. Damn it would be fun to be a auto journo sometimes.
back on topic, personally i'm not much of a fan of the puma type cars, but i can see there is a neiche(sp) market for them.
IMO though, ford aus should concentrate on their bread and butter models for a while, untill they bring up their market share and public opinions a bit.
Funny that Ford Oz haven't had a leader in the mid-class segment since it stopped rebadging Mazdas. Apart from the Cortina I don't remember a European Ford derivative that has done well in Oz.
