Lacking power above half throttle or 3000 rpm

When I drive my 2.5 Cougar around town all ok until I go past half accelerator or expect better pick up beyond 3,500 rpm. Otherwise quite smoove and no missing. Fuel tank has no effect, full or empty.

With the exception of fuel filter/s, the others have been done. I was wondering about the bad fuel pumps. does my problem sound smiliar.

Replace filters and test. Dirty filters could cause that as could a poor performing pump but do filters first.

Re: Lacking power above half throttle or 3000 rpm

You can rent a pressure gauge from the local auto parts store and check the fuel pressure yourself, very easy and probably save you a lot of $$. Also there is really no way to "check" the timing as it is controlled by the computer. One last thing have, have you considered your torque converter, if its bad you for sure wont have the power you expect, check tranny fluid level.

A worn , stretched timing chain can jump , throwing timing out .
