Just bought a 99 Ford Cougar 2.5 X Auto. Reason for automatic is that I've a broken left foot so needed an auto, so my manual Alfa GT is off the road for 3 months now. Also, it's a good excuse to get a V6. Always had a soft spot for the Cougar.
Bought from eBay fairly cheap, tax & MOT til end of July, just drove it home in 75 motorway miles of torrential rain, good time to find any faults! So far, headlight bulb which is no big deal. Air con seems to stay on when off button pressed, then occasionally does switch off. I've noticed that even after the journey home, steam/condensation still coming from exhaust, but it's not white smoke. This could be where it's been standing in this awful rain we've had for days now. No steam from engine though! Temp gauge is steady at halfway point, ticks over at around 850-900 RPM.
I've read that these auto boxes can be a nightmare but so far it was smooth changes all the way. Slight groan first time I put it in reverse, but after the run home, it was fine. Anything I should look for?
it has FSH, 131000 miles on clock, last service at 127k. Needs a good clean but touch wood, not bad so far. I'll be selling in 3 months once foot is ok for clutch, but I appreciate a good forum for swapping advice and tales. I'm in the Alfaowner forum, so hoping this is just as useful.
Anyway, I'll say Hello and Goodbye for now unless anybody has spotted something in the above to give me a heads up about.
