Crankshaft - Wiped connecting Rod Bearing - 2.5L DOC

1999 Cougar 2.5L DOC 6cyl engine.

The free end of the engine's connecting rod bearing let go, I have a damaged journal on my crankshaft now.

I have cleaned the damaged surface, I have measured at 90 degree angles and one way I have 49.21 mm the other way I have 49.87 mm that makes an out of round of 0.66mm

Q. is this out of roundness going to be a problem?
Q. Anyone have the min/max for the connecting rod to crankshaft dimensions?
Q. If this is a problem does anyone know of a solution other than pulling the engine?

Re: shaft - spun connecting Rod Bearing

1) Yes, I believe that this our of roundness would be a problem. Best to go to a machinest and find out...
2) Dude, I've got the service manuals.. if you're interested, send me a pm.
3) Didn't you pull the engine to see what damage there is??!?

When rebuilding your engine, make sure you use Clevite 77 bearings. You can get them in sizes of up to -.75mm.. (dont know if this helps now). From what I remember, teh part number is CB-1772P.

I'm pulling my engine out later this year/early next year and replacing it with a larger 3L. If you're interested, you can have the crank out of my 2.5.

Adrian.
