Thought I'd start a new forum on this output discussion regarding my manual BA XR8 ute and a good friend's manual CSV Monaro. My ute is fitted with Unichip, SS intake, full stainless extractors and exhaust. Monaro is straight out of dealer with no mods (which means it is sold as having a 235KW engine) and about 6000 k's on it. My ute has 11,000. I got 201 KW at rear wheels, which I believe makes it around 300 @ the flywheel. Straight after me the Monaro does 180 at the wheels, giving it approx 270 at the flywheel. I feel that if I had no mods the Monaro would have eaten me.

My point is that maybe Holden is playing games with power output claims, because it would make them look pretty good if a "235" Gen 3 knocks off a Boss 260. Iwas also wondering about a previous thread where someone was going to sell their Pursuit because a supposedly lesser Gen 3 had whipped them - is or was this a similar situation to above. Take 4 example a 285 HSV - do they actually put out 320 or 330.

And just to clarify the out put of my ute - I have seen some reports of 230 rwkw from the same combo as mine and I think it must come down to the dyno itself because I am stoked with the power increase over standard and am completely happy with the cost/performance ratio.

And one last thing, being able to hear my ute doing battle from the outside was the most fun I have had standing up 4 a long long time. No Gen 3 comes close 2 it for sheer audio bliss.

Stop Press. before I get shouted down - the Monaro is a CV8 not a CSV. Very big difference. Sorry folks.

201rwkw's sounds a bit low for the mods you have listed, but then again it was compared to the CV8 and dyno results can all vary according to the accuracy of the machine/software, climatic variations etc.

Did you have a run when your xr8 was stock on the same dyno?

Ditch, I don't know whats going any more with these comparisons. There seems to be that many varibles with these outputs it is getting hard to make sence of it all, but I thought 200 odd kw atw works out to roughly 260 @ the flywheel and 180 works out to 234-235kw atfw.

No I didn't Rodderz, kicking myself too because if you add up the mods and deduct it from 201 it may have only been 160 rwkw or a "240" Boss to start with. But as you say the dynos must vary alot. Anyway as I said b4 I am happy with the on road action it provides. My only other comparison is a back road drag with my brother's BA GT - I won by a car length.

Rod, my only info on the drive train loss comes from Herrods and Wughnu Auto Centre where I had the dyno done. Both say you lose approx one third and this seems to work out. My 300 KW Grange produced 204 rwkw on the same dyno.

Your about on the money rod c. Stock XR8's tend to get anywhere between 190 & 210rwkw (250 to 270 fly kw's). The power gain from the mods listed by Ditch should be good for around a 15 to 25 rwkw increase giving you around 215 to 225 rwkw total. This is an estimated 280 to 290 flywheel kw's.

In the end it doesn't mean much unless you have a before and after result from the same place on the same day at similar temperatures etc. etc..

Ditch, if it feels good then it most likely is. Power to weight in stock form your XR8 and a CV8 Monaro are about on par in terms of performance. If you have enhanced your machine I don't think you’ll have too much to worry about.

this is my dyno sheet. only mod at this stage was a full herrod exhaust
since then i have placed a cold air/bmc filter/
next is the 80mm throttle body and also chip. when rob has done the next stage he will dyno my beast again.

What figure did you get prior to the exhaust mygt?
