Without doubt the most topical, and long anticipated software development in the CAPA/SCT Flash Tuner range would be the Boss 260 XR8 Falcon. Testing is now complete, and the results as follows -
VEHICLE
The test vehicle was an internally stock BA XR8 A4 with 21,224km on the odo at the time of tuning. Modifications consisted of the following -
1) Cat Back bolt on exhaust system
2) 80mm Throttle Body
3) BMC Air Filter element
PROCEDURE
Having already logged 48 dyno runs over time, our initial reading of 206rwkw was within 2% of the cars previous best, therefore typical of this vehicles rear wheel power output.
Testing 'after' tuning completed involved six consecutive full power dyno runs, with less than 10 sec breaks inbetween, the figures coming back
1) 240.6rwkw
2) 241.1rwkw
3) 239.7rwkw
4) 240.9rwkw
5) 241.9rwkw
6) 242.7rwkw
7) 242.2rwkw
8) 241.7rwkw
9) 240.8rwkw
10) 239.2rwkw
As you can see the figures are incredibly consistent, regardless of engine 'torque' loading or driving condition. This is something we aim for in the tuning process, and consistency that only a properly 'Flash' tuned PCM can give. Try it with a piggyback sometime :)
ENGINE CONTROL
Along with the timing, fuel, and torque reduction modifications that make such exceptional power, we also introduced a 'soft touch' rev limiter function at 6300rpm, which allows the 'performance' driver to manually shift the 'SSS' sports shifter at 6000rpm indicated (where you would normally be headbutting the windscreen), for an 'actual' shift of around 6150rpm. If you touch the limiter, its a soft 'miss' rather than a hard 'cut'. Its worth genuine tenths on the racetrack.
TRANSMISSION CONTROL
Something you cant see or feel from a dyno graph are the software modifications we made to the transmission shifting strategies. The vehicle no longer shuts the throttle or 'truncates torque' (reduces engine power markedly) on gearshift like every other XR8 out there :) To compensate for this additional torque loading we added line pressure via the software tables, to prevent any chance of clutch slippage. On the road its crisp and strong, able to 'chirp' the wheels into second at full noise.

Great result Martin,
I would hazard a guess that a manual would produce a little more power.

So Martin,
Do we have a map for the 5.6ltr engine as yet?
Im sure many AUIII Persuit and T3 owners would be hurting for this as well.
I realise that your main goal is BA butI still think the 5.6ltr is going to pull more KW's and nm in standard form with edit than the 5.4
Im impressed with your results and it looks like we shall finally have some fun with the ls1 boys heheheh I bet they didnlt like the release of this?

hi Martin, looks like the tune has worked a treat...
is it safe to change gears at 6000rpm or should we change valve springs or anything else...like do know if this can be done with confidence without worring about the exspence of somthing going a miss...
what power would the car have made in K/Watts if your new tuned dyno runs were left at 5850 rpm limiter...just like to know how much power that extra revs is giving the car..by having the option to remove the limiters...
it all looks exciting for BA owners...

At 6300rpm the stock limiter has been raised only 100rpm. 6200rpm is where the 'fuel cut' rev limiter sits in a stock program. What we have done is remove the clunky interference of the electronic throttle which will close and limit 'engine speed' to 6000rpm. This way, if you happen to touch the limiter on the strip, it doesn't abort the whole run :)
All this sounds great!! Were do ya get it & how much? & are the improvements better for the auto, or will it get that sort of incease on a munual as well??
