The Batten Thermostat Critque

In the famous word of the **** advert: JUST DO IT!

Terry fitted the new thermostat to the BOSS this arvo and it may not be that big on kWs but if the bumometer is anything to go by it's big on torque.
When the car is moving the temp needle now sits a smidgen under quarter, it used to sit between quarter and half. Stopped at the lights in peak hour it rises to a smidgen over quarter, put your boot into it off the lights or cruising in mid range and the car is definately more responsive (amazing what an 8-12 degree temp drop does) for $70 odd, it is a damn cheap and worthwhile mod.
Keep up the good work Barry and thanks mate

Re: The Batten Thermostat Critque

A thermostat is a valid mod these days? ****. I still prefer to see scientific reports more than bum-o-meter for these 'mini-mods'

45,000km service coming up - and i'll be asking for a sizable list of fixes:
* Gearbox (3rd time)
* Steering click (5th time)
* Brake Shudder (2nd time, and has the applied "Fix")
* etc...

It night be running rich but it's not cold enough to have any effect on engine wear.

I think this thermostat would be great for those who have the Cold air kit fitted as those deflectors do not help with the cooling side of things.
Cheers Alex

10-15 degrees? That's a fair drop. I wouldn't be risking it.

That will not harm the car it may consume more fuel.

15 mins Fordy.
As for running rich and wearing out the engine, I do believe this thermostat carries a Cobra R Mustang part number, or is a valid option for them.
I hope this thread doesn't lead to another one of those urban myth scare stories like the underdrives did.
Bottom line is this, the car runs a little cooler, the car is more responsive. Not only does the bumometer allude to this but also the arse end lights up lots easier. If the engine wears out, breaks, explodes, suffers from thermal inefficentcy, or even gets kidnapped by aliens. I DON'T GIVE A SHIT! I'll buy another one.
And as for the detractors and knockers "Try It Before You Go All Tall Poppy Syndrome On Me". If the thing didn't work I'd take it out, but it does. So if you want a cheap mod, IMHO this is a good one, if you don't want it then don't get one. And as for engine problems that may result from mods.
If ya can't afford ta fix it don't do it. Simple as that . We might think these thing are new but the YANKS have been playing with them for years, our Australian donation was heads and cams from what I'm led to believe. Hardly a new Australian engineering concept.

I've spent a lot of money with trial and error mods on this GT of mine and I would hope that I am intelligent enough to know if something is beneficial or not. I'm not inclined to put info on here for the sake of it. I just report what results I get, its a shame so many Eddie the Experts have to rush in with negative comments.

Nah not trying to scare anyone off, I just find it amazing that something so simple could improve performance noticably. Hence why i asked for dyno sheets ;-)
