Had my ute in for 30,000k service today. When I got the bill, it has Engine oil as $82.50 + another $34.00 for filter. I questioned just what sort of oil did they use, Answer "Shell"... I said, "I thought Mobil 1 was specified"?.. Answer.."Oh, this is Shell equivalent, it'll be right"
Knowing I have been paying more than $80 for oil (Mobil1) When I change myself between services, I thought I'd go back thru past Dealer invoices! Surprise. surprise... 3000k service (Westpoint Ford) Engine oil $34.54!!
15,000k service (Duhig Ford) Engine oil $123.69 (& says Mobil1 on invoice)
And now this one (Westpoint Ford) $82.50!! Just what ARE they putting in? After ALL the hoohah, & being SOOO particular about synthetic, brand, viscosity etc, Do they REALLY care?

Good point Charlie, after the trouble they have had with some of the 290 boss engines you would think they would be a little more particular in their oil.......but I suppose when they buy bulk they will go with who ever they can make the biggest profit margin with. I know my dealer uses Shell.

It sounds like the dealers are just after your money.I would do what JAJH does & take your own oil.Also fpv now use castrol oil but the same viscosity.Apparently the boss 260 don't use synthetic oil from the factory either for money reasons.

I change my own oil. The only way I know for sure what is going in (and what is comming out I put in the XE; it loves it) I mean how hard is it? Everybody who drives a car should know how to change the spare and change the oil and filter. I just think that should be a minimum

A Ford tech told me they use synthetic oil in XR8s from the factory....but that means jack!

99% of people would know how to change oil but imagine the backlash if you had engine trouble and it is a warranty issue....then they check the service log...well you could imagine the rest.

As mentioned by a few people already, it is cheaper to give them the oil. The dealers I have noticed tend to charge up to $30 more than you can get it for which is pathetic considering whoever you bought it from has already made a decent profit out of it. I once refused to pay the extra $30 as I actually rang Caltex and asked them for the RRP. I told the dealer that figure and they begrudgingly charged me at that price.

Sh*t, I just checked my invoice for the 10,000 km oil change I had done. It says, get ready for it, 7 litres of Mobil 1 0W-40, cost $159.18 plus 10% GST. I guess I better look next time before just writing the cheque.

Got mine booked in next tuesday for it's 3000k check over. When i purchased it i told them no way was i going to do 15,000 k's on the initial factory fill, and also told them if they want to do the deal, they would be paying for the oil change and filter at 3000k.
Etheridge Ford use Mobil 1, which is fine by me, as FPV recommended it on the Oil cap until recently, when they now recommend Castrol 0w-40. I think that after my 3000k service, i will be supplying my own Mobil 1 for future services, so the dealer doesn't get up me with their exorbitant prices.
