Ford and GM in bed together
Word out of the US is that Ford and General Motors will get into bed together to develop a new six speed automatic transmission. Check the date, it's not April 1st, this is for real.
It's the first time the world's two largest car makers have engaged in a business arrangement, which will develop a six-speed tranny for front drive vehicles said to advance the state of transmission technology and deliver economy and environmental benefits.
Ford and GM have signed a 'memorandum of understanding' with the final agreement expected sometime during the Summer. The new six-speed transmission is expected to go into production after 2005 on front drive cars and sport utility vehicles with mid-to-large capacity engines.
