FPV Pursuit Versus VY Maloo

My eyesight isn't what it used to be (too much internet surfing I reckon) but had a fun event over the weekend with a fellow ute driver - a VY Maloo. Problem was I couldn't make out whether it said 260 or 285 but judging by the newness of the rig I'd hope it was a 285.

Why you ask?

Well, I got HOSED and it looked stock even down to the original exhaust tips. All I saw was this black rig pull away with the obligatory jackhammer rear wheels and into the distance by a couple of car lengths even before I got second gear. It was no better from that point on.

Then I got around to reading the Motor mag I received how late (?? &%$@&*%$@) and what do I see with GT versus R8????

Are these engines really 290???????

The FPV product is good gear but doesn't performance win cred on the street?

If my car wasn't such a waste of money I'd have to modify it of course. However, all I'm waiting for is the time when my lease catches up with the deplorable resale and I can get myself out of the nightmare.

Pete, can I ask which way you think you will head when you sell the Pursuit?

u'd hope it was a 285
surely the BOSS290 could hold its own against the 260 LS1. Ford have some serious work to do (again)

Re: FPV Pursuit Versus VY Maloo

I agree with you AP on the power of the 290. I took a GT manual for a run, while everyone else raved about the power back at the dealers, I felt like saying what's all the excitement about but I did not want to ruin their party.
I have driven GTHO's and well tuned 351's that would leave the boss 290 for dead. I am meaning like you, in straight line power only.

Re: FPV Pursuit Versus VY Maloo

I have read about differant tests giving differant results as far as KW power goes for engines. This article is from MM (GT vs R8).

Re: FPV Pursuit Versus VY Maloo

The Pursuit weighs about 1870kg I believe which would explain why you were beaten by a ute with similar power but about 200kg less. The Pursuit is the heaviest vehicle in the Falcon range.

Re: FPV Pursuit Versus VY Maloo

Ive said it in another post. I have recently driven both the GT and R8, and for me i would take the R8. I have heard the arguments about the 'overall' package, but the R8 is an awesome bit of gear. The GT is great also, but just didnt really excite like the R8.
