Hmm, well here we go. it started very quickly and cant so far be identified. Checked the engine mounts, big brembos, steering rack, suspension, cant find out why it makes this "crack" noise on brake application, brake relase, and when going over speed bumps slowly with no brake applications. and yes the wheel nuts are on !!.. Anyone come across this problem ( and a fix) as yet. My dealer hasnt and are scratching their heads...

I had the exact same problem. Took 'em 3 times to find it. From memory it was definately an engine mount and a replacement of one of the suspension bushes.
My problem happened every time you release the brake and accelerate.
I will print this out and take it with me, I have a bad feeling this is going to be stuffed up. I called FPV they are calling the dealer and see what needs to be done.
Coupeman, that when I get it as well as brake applciation, and speed bumps

Yep, sounds identical. Turning, brake application, brake release.... just about every sudden movement. The noise sounded like a wheel nut rolling around in the glovebox. In the end it was fixed and I was a happy chappy, but it does make you wonder how it could leave the factory like that hey?
You are so spot on with the noise..... The concerning thing is that it started only a few weeks ago. damned if I know, but very dissapointing and further sign of quality issues I feel.
Well, we still dont have a fix. I have a new power steering switch, but no fix.
Ford says the vehicle is within specifications, I disagree, if this is specifications then I am buying Korean next time...
Really odd how this started, and it is within specs. My previous BA XR8 had no issues at all with steering. So quaility obviously goes down the more you pay for a performance vehicle.
I do have a new oil leak, from the power steering change, so add that to the list.
Mentioned the engine mount and suspension bushes and got a new power steering switch.
I had a "cracking" noise from the front of my BA XR8
I never heard offically what the dealer did to fix it.
But an FPV Technician at another dealer I spoke to said that the rack mounting studs or bolts "pull" at the hole they thread into and cause the area around the holes to be slightly raised, this prevents the rack being clamped tightly. They fix it by taking the rack off and chamfering the mounting holes.
Aparently they have done a few... and I'm pretty sure he said that there was a service bulletin for the problem.
I had a similar "cracking" noise on my XR8. It sounded metal on metal and i thought maybe the springs were binding for some reason or something with the shocks. After the second time in they said the steering rack was loose and they tightened it. I don't think they removed any metal becauseit still does it. Might ask them about that fix next service or when the steering rack falls off. :p
