I went to the local FORD/FPV dealer yeterday and asked for a G.T. brochure and was informed I would have to pay $15 as that is what it costs them and if I bought a G.T they would give me one.Little bit rude I say.
Absolutely correct FF. Looking at the board quality, gloss finish, number of pages, quality photography and relatively small print run; I'd be tipping they cost closer to $80-100 each.
FPV will undoubtedly subsidise the cost to dealers but they do pay for the brochures so I can't really blame them for taking a tough line on this one.
The only brochure I have seen is a simple 3 page one with pics of the three cars from the motor show.
If that is the one then they are joking.
Oh and if some sales worm tried to charge me $15 for a brochure I would walk out and make sure that I did not buy anything there ever.
You want to sell $75,000 toys then you have to gamble occasionally. If a customer is good enough for a test drive then he is good enough for a brochure.
2 years ago I was annoyed by a Tickford salesman doing simmilar things and he missed a sale.
I bought from a different dealer and have have bought 2 cars since and am about to order another.
One of the skills that good car sales guys seem to have is to be able to actually sell the the car..........
Yeah i think they were around the $45 mark each...and have a full in-depth revue of all features, options and models. They also have photo's of the different colouring options with stripes etc..
A very good brochure indeed
I gotta say that the brochure is one of the best i have seen. Fantastic design and absobloodylutely everything you would want to know about the whole range. Well worth the $15 bucks IMO if thats all they are asking for it !
I can understand that attitude if you asked for 20, but they will eventually piss off a legit GT buyer with that kind of response. I'm sure they're making more than $15 profit per car
A simple "we're out of stock" would be a better to response to someone asking for one who obviously has no intention of buying a car (eg a pack of 13 year olds)
1. As I said above it is not the 3 pager that has been doing the rounds (fairly obviously). It is 16 double sided pages - three of which are fold out and incorporates a rather clevel with ot without stripes colour selector in the back. There is also a separate specs fold out and a colours/trims fold out.
2. According to the brochure collectors association they have 15,000 active members in this country - whatever the actual production cost of the brochure is would you like to pay for each one of those to have one?
3. It's a salesmans job to "qualify" potential buyers. I am sure that a brochure would be made available to any serious purchaser without charge. I've got mine.
There's a brochure collectors association? I just put some K-Mart brochures in the recycling bin they can have
Seriously I agree with your point. The salesman's job is to weed out the tire kickers (& brochure collectors) & make sure that the potential customers are not annoyed.
The wonders of the web. If you think car brochure collecting is odd then try these on -
The good old US has a massive number of people who collect Police badges - they were even out here for a convention a few years back.
Not to be outdone we have the Association of Timetable collectors who collect bus and train timetables.
... or how about the knife collectors club?
... or the SA Military vehicle collectors association?
... or National Beer Can collectors Inc.?
or from further afield
The road map collectors association (from Arkansas so that probably explains that one).
The Association of game and puzzle collectors (US).
Telephone Collectors International (Kansas) - their newsletter is called "Singing Wires". (We have one here too).
The Paper Collectors Association (Wisconsin)
The Button Collectors Club (the ones you sew on your shirts).
The Tube collectors Association (for electron tubes).
Vaseline Glass Collectors, Inc. (!!)
National Duck Stamp Collectors Society - here is their own explanation of what they do - The primary purpose of the National Duck Stamp Collectors Society (NDSCS) is to promote and encourage the collecting and study of migratory waterfowl hunting and conservation stamps. The NDSCS is the only stamp collecting society devoted exclusively to duck stamps. Hard to see why it's the ONLY one!
The International Scouting Collectors Association (they collect uniforms and stuff not the actual Scouts).
International Sewing Machine Collectors' Society
The Cracker Jack Collectors Association - What could possibly be more fun than finding the surprise inside a Cracker Jack?
Mountain Dew Bottle Collectors
Ohio Decoy Collectors & Carvers Association!
The National Association of Milk Bottle Collectors.
The Maytag Collectors Club )as in large commercial washing machines).
Early Typewriter Collectors Association.
Sugar Packet Collector's International.
The Society Of Inkwell Collectors.
Subbuteo Collectors' Forum (for those who don't know the soccer game played by turning handles often seen in British films).
i spoke to my dealer today and he has my brochure waiting for me but he did say that they have only received a couple from FPV and not got the whole shipment yet:shh:
I can understand that ford would be a bit reluctant tot give away expensive brousures, but contrast their approach with BMW
When I was at the Brisbane motor show last year, I went to the BMW stand, mentioned that my brother like beemers and asked if they had any brouchers, esp about the M3. Despite the fact that I was dressed in Tshirt, shorts and thongs, the lady handed me pretty much every brouchure they had, one for each of the diiferent 3 series (coupe, sedan etc), 5 series, 7 series, M range etc. These were classy documents too, with little push out coloured squares so you could decide on your preffered interior trim design. Very impressive
I was dreaming and went into the local Porsche dealer.
They had brochures in hard cover to give away, they also took my name and the next thing I know Porsche HQ, had sent me by Airmail a promo pack, with Price guide for the boxter, model guide on all there cars, a copy of there mag "Christophorus" and a 30min video on the Boxter.
ALL FREE.
I think it is a bit rude to make some buy a brochure on a car that they are thinking of buying.
Don't you have to get specs and do model comparisons? I like to..

I sent an email to Ford via My Ford and got the following responce:-
Dear Scott,
Thank you for your e-mail requesting a brochure on the Ford BA GT.
We wish to inform you that there are currently no brochures available on the
new Ford Performance Vehicles range. Therefore, we have placed you on a
priority list and you will receive a brochure as soon as it becomes
available.

if i was a salesman, i would definately be handing brochures out to kids, no matter what their age. Chances are, they are gonna show that brochure to their dad, and you never know how much money their dad has to spend, and what he wants to spend it on.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
