GT air filter

Ford calls it a 'conical air filter' and its meant to have a high rate of efficiency. However, its been proven that on E series falcons panel filters are FAR more efficient that pod filters, and since this conical filter thing looks to be roughly the same shape as a pod one, is it more efficient, and if so, how is that possible? I've kept the panel in my EF simply because its been proven to be the most efficient as compared to replacing it with a pod in the airbox, and yet here is Ford putting a filter that is nothing like a panel one in their FPV models? Is there something I'm missing here?!

Re: GT air filter

I'm on expert on which type of filter is better but i'm sure FPV have done their homework and know what is best for the GT's.
Cheers John

Re: GT air filter

GTP320, I think you mean NO expert, not on expert?

Normally, I ignore typos, but this totally changes the meaning as the initial viewing reads an expert, not no expert

John, i would have to agree with you, Ford/FPV spend countless $$$ or research and development, and some people think they know better.

Re: GT air filter

The T3 strokers used the same setup, so it's probably a mustang part which is needed to bolt to the 82mm MAF.

Hold up there, I wasn't trying to say they're wrong for doing it, I was actually more trying to understand why. I'm sure there is a very good reason for it, and thats what I want to find out! I only ask simply because there's a bit of a debate about airbox mods and the effectiveness of filters etc etc going on atm, and seeing as Ford, as you correctly said, have spent millions on figuring out the GT's lungs, i was trying to find out what they came up with - not bash their findings.

Suggest you read my post again before replying!

Re: GT air filter

A conical style filter has a larger surface area the reason a pod is often less effient is because the car isn't set up for it so they end up sucking in hot air from the engine bay

Re: GT air filter

I remember reading a story about the development of the T3 and Ford tested a heap of airboxes and found the highest flowing one was the conical airbox from the Mustang that was used on the T3 and now the XR8 and GT.

exactly! hot air is less dense than cold air, hence less power.
