GT Auto 1/4 mile vs. manual - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Does the GT auto beat the manual over the 1/4 mile?
Any thoughts guys? (i.e. wheel spin at take off, how much time does this cost the manual?)

I've done some additional research since my initial thread was posted and I have some new information. "russellw" posted some interesting information on "threadid=37118" on 9/5/03. I hope he doesn't mind me quoting his good work!

He had 400 m times and 0 -100 times (as well as graphs and accelleration data) for 3 cars, being an XR6T, XR8 and GT. In summary he found the following:

400 m (all autos):
XR6T - 14.22
XR8 - 14.16
GT - 13.98

In comparison Motor magazine July 2003 issue had the following times:
400 m (all manuals):
XR6T - 14.14
XR8 - 14.40
GT - 13.98

"russellw" 0 - 100 (all autos)
XR6T - 6.04
XR8 - 6.22
GT - 5.84

Motor magazine July 2003, 0 - 100 times (all manuals):
XR6T - 5.91
XR8 - 6.16
GT - 5.78

In conclusion there doesn't seem to be much in it over 400 m for the GT in auto and manual form!!!

I'd love to see a side by side test on the same track, temp, weather conditions ect., ect.

If anyone has heard of such a comparison please post it.

heres my two bobs worth,as a very proud owner of a bagt auto, it would imposible for any human to change a manual gear faster than the btr auto
as i have driven a few gt manuals, thats why i waited extra months for the btr auto to arrive..

mabey ur just a slow changer...i know that i can change faster in my turbo that the btr auto changes in other turbos i have driven, and the xr6 turbo box is sposed to be a dog..

haha dont worry i dont...either way, i found that the auto is damn quick, but it is possible to change quicker with a manual

Guys,

Don't forget that the manual has an extra cog (5 gears Vs. 4) which gives it an advantage in acceleration (minus the extra time taken to actually shift).

the btr also has a 5th gear in override will only opperate in the select D drive possy.

Mygt you must have the only gt with a 5 speed auto I think you:ll find if you read your owners man it is a 4 speed autoa lockup
