Thats what I throught. Before they releast the specs for the FPV range they said that the GT-P will have more Peformance than the GT.

I thought I was just tripping when I saw it. I would swear that it said that the P standed for Performance. I guess when Ford Oz kept the 290 for the GT-P they changed it to Premium, unless that was ment the be the case for the entire time?

Given that the GT and GT-P are replacing the TE and TS, I always thought that the GT-P would simply be a more luxurious version of the GT. And more luxury = more weight = less performance, especially when we now know that both cars are to have the same engine etc.

They never officially said what the P stands for, although it was always percieved to mean greater luxury standard features (SUPER FAIRMONT, in other words).

Ford were declaring that the GT-P would have greater performance (it even said/says it on the site) but that is bollocks, as it will use the same engine as the GT.

Not that I would be complaining with 290Kw under the hood, and especially when that 290 value is an understated one.

Performance can also mean bigger brakes. Better handling. Better stereo even. And it has always been known that the GT-P would be more upmarket than the GT. Which makes sense when the mind wanders to GTHO's (gotta leave the door open so to speak) and the like.

Juts wait and see what ford will do in the next 2 years, im pretty confident you wont be disapointed

You gotta give FPV credit for the most subtle change in marketing strategy yet.
Obviously we all knew that the GT-P was going to be an upmarket job rather than better performance, however it is good to see that they now ackowlege it. I think one of the problems with the original T-Series was that the TS and TE did have identity issues because the TE was the racer yet TS had more power.
The "P is for Premium" works because it leaves us with no doubt what the car is about. P for Performance would have been a bad marketing move unless they gave the car a "Handeling Option" and that moniker is already reserved.

Subtle??
I think the usual term for this sort of about-face is something like "a realignment of our marketing strategies to better reach the target demographic". Of course to the rest of us it's just another marketing "coup". Anybody want another banana skin to trip over??
