If the XR8 performs on equal par with the XR6T, then I'm just going to have to live with it.

Oh, and GoAuto hasn't updated their site yet. So no GT review so far.
I feel just the same! Frustrated is the right word. To pay a $50.000+ for a car I expect it to absolutely destroy the rival, but nut just "match" it. The sad news is the XR8 is far faster than HSV/SS alltogether and the take off would even leave the XR6T few meters behind. I know what am saying so don't argue with me. The thing that you're pointing here is very true, unless it get's faster times on official speen magazine like wheels/motor, no one would belive it and you'll end up losing resale value later on. The AU XR8 is around $20000 mark now compared to 25G for the SS, simply because the SS can do 6.6 seconds(debatable) 0-100 while the AU can't.

Although I enjoy humiliating many WRX out there, they keep their value cause car mags tested them once and extracted some good figures. Doesn't matter how many gearboxes they stuffed or they used a slightly wet surface to allow 4 wheels spinning, the got 5.9 seconds once and that's it!

I'm waiting for wheels review next month, the XR8 is out of my plans if it didn't rip the HSV off. I've been waiting quite a while for that new engine and not ready to handle some ricer looks say: hey mate, the HSV/SS is faster than yours!!

Do they actually test the cars at goauto??? It always seems like as if they just drive it but let some one else to give them the figures!

quote:The net result is a level of performance that Ford expects to be equivalent to the XR6T - a six-second 0-100km/h and 14-second quarter mile dash.

Well, if "Ford expects", that means we need to wait for Motor/Wheels actual test cause some times they surprise even Ford. Ford expected 6.4 seconds for the turbo while it's always capable of getting 5.9 and so.

Keeping in mind all times will be run on a manual gearbox (the auto isn't out yet) I don't think it will match the SS, it will beat it. That extra torque will mean it gets off the line a lot quicker and will stay infront no matter how much the thing ways. But, alas, we must wait for the auto to come out before we can see.

Just like the dealer said. That the XR6T was designed to go head to head with the SS means the XR8 has no peer...

Auto XR8's should start appearing in April

i hope what doesnt happen is what happened with BMW's M 3 and 5 performance variants.

if you look at the factory quotes specs, the M3 and the M5 have almost lineball performance(0-100 M3 5.2, M5 5.3 |0-1000m M3 24.3, M5 24.2). shame that, coz the m3(while being smaller) is cheaper to buy and run, but is the same speed. the V8 m5 needs more balls to show its superiority over the 6cyl m3. check bmw site for M specs and compare.

i hope the XR8's extra 20kw and the flatter torque curve offsets the it's weight enough to show the world that the 8 can beat the boosted 6 any day of the week.(factory spec anyway, with money you can do almost anything)

Keep in mind that when the E39 M5 was made when the E36 M3 was current. The M5 was quicker at that time, although based on different platforms (unlike falcon) and aimed at different markets. Wait for the MEW M5, then youll be laughing :)

FLATTER torque curve?!?!?!

Mate, It doesnt get any flatter than flat.

From the way I see it it seems that the XR6t and XR8 were made to be very similar, so you dont lose with either car, you just have a choice of turbo, or the sound of a real engine.
