How do you disconnect the Battery without setting off the Alarm
Guys anyone with an idea of how to disconnect a GT battery without setting off the factory alarm. It seems my battery is almost dead and I am not waiting around for Ford Care to tell me I need to pay for a replacement when I can change it myself if only I could disarm the Alarm and get the old one out

With the car alarms in the T-Series they had a key to turn them on or off but i dont think the GTs have a key.
Cheers John

I have no idea, but I've got a question about why the alarm goes off when the battery is low.
I was happily waiting in a line, listening to the radio on accessories, and after a while when I went to start the car, my alarm went off! And it wouldn't turn off again, because the key was already turned in the ignition. Kinda embarrassing.
When I went back to the dealer, they managed to drain the battery testing why & whatfor, and after replacing battery & consulting *the alarm guys at Ford*, they decided that the alarm goes off randomly when the battery gets low.
Question: how long are batteries supposed to last?

Cant you plug a socket into the cigaret lighter, jump a battery via that, then swap them over, i have a battery lying around for that, did that with the wifes lancer although not a ford I admit, it had the key on accesory (so cig lighter had power), and it kept all radio settings etc while I swapped battery over, in principle it should work fine, even if you jumped it form another car.
just my thoughts.

You turn on the ignition and leave it on then disconnect the battery. Then make sure you turn the ignition off again before you fit the new one so you don't get a computer spike.

Thanks Hypnodoc, that worked a treat. i was a little concerned with trying that method yesterday due to the possible flash back if the negative decided to ark when I disconnected the terminal, but all is ok and the car is now running again

Thats the way mate, now wait until your driving down the road minding your own business then the 3 or 4 pips chirp and the bloody alarm comes on by itself. My car has done it twice, the only way to stop it is to pull over switch off the ignition and hit the lock unlock button on the keyless entry fob. Report it to your dealer and they go into denial and look at you like your half mad, not a very good alarm system me thinks.

Re: How do you disconnect the Battery without setting off the Alarm
The correct way (Ford Service Bulletin) is as follows:
"Before disconnecting the siren connector or the vehicle's battery ensure that the system (alarm) is disarmed and ignition is switched to the "ON" position. Failing to do this will result in the siren sounding via it's internal power supply."
