Interesting Comparison!
Just got back today after taking the GT-P for a round trip from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast. All up we did 4,200klms, had the wife with me, a boot full of crap and all I can say is, "What a fantastic car to drive on a trip!!"
However, where the interesting part comes in is..... this is the third time in the last 12 months I have done exactly the same trip and in 3 different cars. I just happened to keep a record of the distances, fuel costs and economy for all three cars.
The first was in my AUII XR8 220kw, 2 adults, 3 teenage kids and a bigger boot full of crap. Total of 4,179 klms. Fuel costs - (PULP) $436.50. Average economy - 9.5 Lt/100klms or 10.5 klm per litre - range around 700klm per tank. Total litres used = 397.39
The 2nd trip was in AU11 TE50 220kw, 2 adults and boot full of crap. Total of 4190 klms. Fuel costs - (OPTIMAX) $442.50. Average economy - 10.5Lt/100klms or 9.44klm per litre - range around 640klm per tank. Total litres used = 443.47
This trip in the GT-P 290kw, 2 adult, etc, etc. Total of 4,200klm. Fuel costs - $497.50 (I did a little experiment of trying PULP and OPTIMAX.) Distance of 1,329klms (PULP) Average economy - 11.7lt/100klm or 8.5klm per litre - range around 580klm per tank. The remaining distance of 2,825klms (OPTIMAX) Average economy - 11.2lt/100klm or 8.9klm per litre - range around 600klm per tank. Total litres used = 473.83
So, the figures show that the GT-P gets around 600klm on a trip (not bad for a car that size I reckon), fuel costs at the bowser have risen in the last 12 months yet it only cost me $61 extra in the GT-P for the whole trip. The difference in PULP and OPTIMAX for economy was only .5 of a litre per klm, which mean an extra 34klm per tank. The only complaints I had about the GT-P is the trip computer is not accurate enough. It would show a tank will get around 560klm, yet my fugures show better than that and having spoken to Ford previously, they claim the trip computer cannot be re-calibrated? The other odd thing that happened was both fog lights burnt out. I tend to drive with them on and although the fogs still work, there is a large purplish blotch on both lights as if they are about to fail. A Ford dealer in Qld was also puzzled but told they are covered under warranty, so not really a big deal, just a rather strange problem. Overall, a pretty good result and a solid comparison to 2 previous models.....
