Larry Martin - 1959-2004 RIP mate
This is just some news for my friends on the forums.
One of my 6.0 circuit boat fellow competitors Larry Martin, pilot of Australian 6.0 no 1 "TROJAN" was tragically killed at the Bundaberg meeting last weekend.
His family was present during the tradgedy. A blade come off the prop at approx 110-120 mph, turning the boat on its lid.
Larry was dragged from the boat with a pulse, but died on the way to hospital.
The last time I spoke to larry, he told me to "give it to them" at the Gold cup. and we did.
This man always opened his toolbox to lend a spanner, a spark plug, help with a fellow competitor, always would offer a stranger a beer from his esky, or a sausage from his BBQ. Racers like that don't grow on trees.
I write this as a tribute to a great racer, but as a timely reminder to all. This is the third friend I have lost in racing, and I want all forum members to enjoy their motorsport with safety in mind.
Life is just too short.
We are all friends here on the forums, with much in common. These cars are getting quicker, all of you be careful.
Read about larry on Ozsport.com.au.
Thanks for listening.
Chris
