I said this before when I had my AU2 XR8. With the option lists on Ford vehicles if you start ticking boxes you get rogered when trade in or sale time comes around.
I note the luxury pack on the XR series now is along the lines of what I suggested a while back but my attention is now drawn to the Pursuit ute. My Pursuit with the options and accessories was essentially the same price as a GT-P. It ain't pretty on the rebound let me tell you!
What I was thinking was HSV has a Maloo and then a Maloo R8. I think FPV have to do something similar because a Pursuit optioned up is always going to be compared to a $55000 base vehicle.
Here's my suggestion:
Pursuit
RRP $54,850
As per current spec
Pursuit R
RRP $62,000 (approx, noting Maloo R8 RRP is $60,925)
- Brembos (approx 10% of buyers currently spec this option)
- Prestige Sound
- Standard stripes
- Leather trim (something like 90% of Pursuits are optioned with leather)
- GT-P style wheels or similar
(the cost to option this spec now is approx $63,500
That way when you go to sell or trade in a Pursuit R it is clear what the added cost is for.

Re: Optioned Up Ford/FPV Cars Being Gouged on Resale
Great thinking Pete! Sound like a very logical idea which will go a little way into assisting your resale values. Maybe FPV did not anticipate anyone wanting to option up a Ute so high? Point being do you think there is sufficient demand for such a 'R' model?
Re: Optioned Up Ford/FPV Cars Being Gouged on Resale
Demand isn't the issue is it? I mean it would be the same car with the following extras FPV would have to develop:
- additional embroidery 'R' stitching in the seats (not entirely necessary though)
- R or similar badges/stickers to designate the car externally
All the rest would be off the shelf right?

Re: Optioned Up Ford/FPV Cars Being Gouged on Resale
To a degree Pete, but isnt that simple. Demand is relevant if costs must be justified from a business point of view. To go ahead they must determine what the likely return on investment would be if they spend money on:
Marketing cost: educating and awarness to the market of the new model i.e. brochures, website, posters, dealer education and support materials, etc
Model costs: Customising the car to 'R' status as you described.

That's for starters...
Do it at the same time as BA2/FPV2 then you can cut marketing costs.

I can 'feel' your pain, but that won't help. I'm not suggusting the marketing cost would be huge, small or otherwise, but the point is, there is one (a marketing cost)so it needs to be justified with a return on investment.
Would you spend money to create a product for sale that couldn't prove to give at least reasonably return on your investment? Of course not. BTY I'm not suggusting a product like Pete's Pursuit 'R' wouldn't either, it just a very relative question don't you think?
Re: Optioned Up Ford/FPV Cars Being Gouged on Resale
I like the idea but 'Pursuit R' just doesnt sound right. It sounds like the interior will be full of those cheapass 'Type R' accessories you find at Big W .

I totally agree this is an issue. I think optioned cars don't usually recieve a higher price because the yard don't put a higher price on them, if anything they are simply seen as being easiler to sell.
For example, when I was looking to buy the AU1 XR6 which has the full tickford kit & 17s that I ended up buying for $25k. The yard were selling other white AU XR6s for $25k with no body kit and only 16s with klms on both cars being similarly low.
Figure, Its like a buying a fully optioned GT, it will never get the same resale as a GT-P ever though it costs more to purchase.

Re: Optioned Up Ford/FPV Cars Being Gouged on Resale
Just something little from me here, I have shopped both my GTs, when the dealers ring there mates for the price, ive noticed they dont rearly care too much for the GT P, they are telling me that they have less respect as a trade than a base GT. some of you probably dont believe me, I did it, if you dont, as an excercise, go test the market.
GTP 320, an extremly nice car, optioned up big time, $90k to buy it, got 15k on it, its probably only worth $54 to $55k, which is B/S compared to what you pay for it. But this is fact, the trade dont want these cars, that was the disinct feeling I got from the expiditions I made.
