I have heard that the wheels cant cope with any more on the GT, possibly its the rear suspension set up, maybe the engine is tuned too much towards performance and not suitable for towing, the real reason is, that they have never tested a GT at 2300kg, which is unfortunate because this means that we can not get a GT-P for our next family vehicle :-(
you will find its due to the max loading on the tyres. if you bought lets say a pursuit with one tonne tray you will receive it with 16" light truck tyres and not the 18's fitted with normal tray. If you downsize the rim combo and fit light truck tyres as fitted to one tonne pursuit the tow loading will increase.

The bloody price of SP9000's (& lack of tread life) is making this look a very attractive option!

But...
Pursuits are not sold with trays, or one tonne load ratings, etc. 16" LT or C type tyres will obviously have greater load rating, but the suspension isn't being changed, nor is the vehicle's tyre placard or tow rating.
Ive already done a upgrade on a ute, but also added an extra leafspring for a customer who was using his for refrigeration repairs. the stock rim/tyre combo kept popping tyres on potholes due to loads and he also smashed the rear bodykit because of the leafsprings too soft but very achievable on any car. Oh and you can have a tray on a pursuit as another customer has one, he simply said i want the tray and i will go to a dealer that will give it to me if you dont!

Ohhh... Details, Details!.. 6 bolts & a few wires and Tubs gone...
RHS frame, ally checkerplate,(or a nice bit of Tassie oak) couple of guards, some nice 16 LT's, air shocks, and weld a nice hefty H.R Sq hitch to the chassis!......
Yes but the devil is in the details! Certainly do the changes, then get the eng cert to legally comply.
Actually, with 2300kg tow weight and say 230kg tongue weight would this exceed the Pursuit load capacity, or tyre/wheel load rating by itself? I think chevypower got it spot on in the first post when he said that "they have never tested a GT at 2300kg". Perhaps if enough pressure is put on, Ford will change this similar to what happened with most 4wd manufacturers and their rated tongue weights.
