Having just acquired a 5 spd manual GT, I have experienced the annoying 3rd gear rattle, which my dealer states that FORD are saying it is normal operation. I was wondering if fitting the Herrod Sure Shifter eliminates this and is $770 a fair price to have one fitted?? (quote from Brad Garlicks).

p.s. haven't run out of excuses yet to just "duck up the road" in the GT

You will probably find that the third gear rattle is typical Tremec rollover noise, much worse when its cold. There is a Tremec S/Shifter available from Mal Woods for around $300 I put one in the GT and the Ford Dealer charged me $150 to fit $450 all up. The Tremec one from Mal Woods is made to go with the box and looks exactly the same as what came out, makes a huge difference changing gears, much faster and smoother and the second to third change becomes a short sharp shift instead of a 2 second fumble. Mal Woods advertises on this forum and he is a really friendly and knowledgable guy to talk to about these cars. Regardless of what option you take.

either way, is worth the money, providing it's not more than $500.00. i have the herrod one on my car and i reckon it's great- although the 2nd to 3rd is quicker, you can still get caught in limbo (had it in 2 weeks and missed the 3rd change twice already).

be wary that the reduced throw does not give the synchros enough time to slow the gears and you'll get a few grinds- long term with a lot of fast changing couldn't be good for the box, something they don't tell you but something to remember.......

anyhoo, screw it, get one fitted, it is much better- got my herrod one done for $560 fitted

The shifter is definately one of the best mods i've done, very helpful when racing too.

Redhawk dont forget our plan to hold the doc down and steal his keys lol.

Mate, its gonna be the Lightening Strike one as it has no leather. You know what black leather is like in the WA summer, tooooo hot. So I figured if I have the choice I'd go the L/Strike and spend some of the $2000 saving on a FVP sports wheel
