It seems on just about every thread there's an argument somewhere along the line regarding whether you can or can't detect the flash tuners. Now a simple direct question how many people out there have been "sprung" using them ( by Ford etc. ).

hi i dont realy have anything to do with this but ive got two questions, what do you mean by detect the flash tuner(i know what a flash tuner is)and sprung using one by ford, why wouldnt you tell them you have one?
Telling Ford that you have flashed the ECU will void warranty as the rev limiter is increased. But Ford could do the very same on the BF and it would be fine. In a nutshell, if they can get away without paying for warranty they will.

My XR8 has been edited since January, my dealer does'nt even know what it is, they are still living in chip land, they look all over my ECU looking for wires!
If they don't even know what it is how are they going to detect it?
Obviously I have'nt been sprung, about the only way you could be is to leave the Edit in when you take her in to your dealer instead of flashing the stock Ford program back in.

I took my typhoon in for the 3000 km check yesterday and the guy at the service department asked me if i was going to get the edit for it. He originally had the unichip in his xr6t and he changed to the edit and was really impressed. So i don't think you can just assume that they are all idiots who are ten years behind. Now i'll rephrase my original question, has anyone gone to make a claim under warranty and had Ford say "sorry but this car has been edited, we can't fix it under warranty" (even if you "flashed" it back to stock before going in). All i wanted to know is if this has happened to anyone out there. Thanks.
I read on another thread that the dealer could detect it if, on a previous service, they flashed in an upgrade and then on the next service they found the stock program which had been flashed in before you took the car for that service. This is an interesting question and maybe one of the specialist tuners like Xtreme can shed some light on it.

No, because when you put your custom tune into the car after they have put in the factory upgrade you will load their upgrade into your flash tuner, which is the tune you'll load back in for the next service. The original factory tune will be gone.

Have you read some of the horror stories on dealer services and warranty work-they all sound like idiots to me.
And I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who's been sprung and is genuine.

Mate,
That is exactly what happened to me...... I had her edited..... reflashed the original program back in when she went in for the clutch upgrade and new program......they did not detect anything..... then uploaded the new program which is now my default factory program...... Of course it sure helps when you have the Grand Wizard... Simon on your side.
I suspect I may be putting my warranty at risk...... but holy hell..... push that right foot down..... and IT is all worth it....Sex on wheels
cheers
Peter
