There was talk that T series owners would receive a special deal on the new GT. I doubt that it's true...Any dealers out there keen to trade my perfect TE50 less than 5000kms on the clock on a new GT?
l have been speaking to a couple of dealers over the past few days as we are considering selling the XR6T for a GT and they have confirmed that Ford have released a special deal for T series owners.
We owned a Series 1 TS50 until Dec last year but sold it while it was still worth something, glad we did now that T3's are available new for $40k. Too long to wait for the GT at the time; l hate to think what our TS50 would have been worth now
Anyhow, the deal is free Brembos on a GT, or free premium sound and Sat Nav on a GT-P. You are meant to get a letter from Ford offering you this deal. I dont think its a wonderful offer considering the way Ford treated FTE owners, but its better than kick in the teeth. What l am trying to decide now is if Ford are going to do the same thing to the first GT owners that they did to the early FTE owners.......
That offer is amazing. Consider it 'not wonderful' but when someone buys a car they make the choice themselves at THAT time. Cars are always improving and that means you are going to get caught out when upgrades occur.
Is there an offer for AU XR8 ute owners who now have a new model base I6 with almost the same power? Did I get anything from Holden when my limited edition 215kW HSV GTS-R was made irrelevant (and worth nothing) overnight when Gen 3 was released? No!
I think FPV and Ford have done a great and honorable thing. Not seen anywhere else!

Reality time guys. Whatever you buy will be supersceded by a bigger better gooder one. I am very sure the BA2 GT or what ever will be an improvement. Can you imagine what it would be like if it was not.
All GTs fitted with 289Ws and producing 168kws.
Do you think the guys who bought a Phase 2 new wrote to Ford and asked for a discount on a Phase 3.
I am buying a GTP coz to quote the old red pussy add "I just want one".
I know it will depreciate in monetry value but if I wanted to invest I would have bought land instead.
This is not a dress rehersal, I will get old and die soon so I am having fun now. I don't intend to upgrade in the next few years but then things always change.
I will leave you all with this question.
When you bought your TE/TS/XR8 or whatever did you buy it coz it was the best thing you could get or as an investment for your old age?

Anyone who buys a car, especially a new one for investment is a fool. l invest in property when l want to invest, l buy a car for fun. Doesnt mean l ignore possible future resale, l work too hard to be that flippant with my money.
l feel Ford handled the whole FTE thing badly constantly undermining buyers and devaluing existing purchasers. "Dont bite the hand that feeds you" Just because you can buy a car and expect it to deprecaite doesnt make what has occured with the whole T series thing acceptable in my opinion.
The cars were marketed as Fords top line with pricing to match. As soon as something better comes along Ford discount heavily. l havent seen HSV do this but l may be wrong. Why do you think upto now Fleets prefer Commodore? Why has Magna resale been so poor? Discounting.
How is it that a new T3 can be had for not much over 40 grand? Where could l have got a runout VX R8 for that?

Very true Mondie, but the VY R8 is not much better than the VX whereas the GT is a major change over the T3. I am fairly sure I remember huge discounts on the VT GTSs & Clubbies back in about 1998 when the Gen3 was launched. There was not a huge discount war going on between the AU models e.g. T2 to T3 or AU2 XR8 to AU3 XR8.
But what are they (ford) to do, they had heaps of them left due to the rumours of the BA over a year before the release. I actually test drove a runout AU2 XR8 at the local dealer and the sales guy told me about the 'new mustang engine falcons coming soon'.

The only thing I have going for me here in Tassie, is that there are only half a dozen T3 cars in the state, so hopefully that will keep the resale a bit better here than on the mainland. Makes me cry to hear you can buy a new T3 for $40k. Damn that sucks
Maybe i'll have my T3 longer than first thought

Yeah l dont know what the answer is if Ford finds itself with so many cars leftover, but shafting people who paid full retail just 6 months before doesnt seem the best answer. Maybe they overestimated how many T3's they were going to sell and overproduced? That then becomes the current owners problem....
So have you ordered your GTP? l have been phoning around a few dealers and have found that getting a GT isnt that hard, most are saying a 2-3 month wait which is nothing. They are still saying order now and deliver in July for the XR6T though!
l hope Ford build the GT to order only and dont overproduce as it seems they did with the T3 if they had/have so many still to move.
