I got my Tremec short throw shifter in today and it's bloody awesome. Throw is reduced but not to a ridiculous level and the 2nd to 3rd shift is now oh so sweet. Ordered it from Mal Wood yesterday and they got it down to me overnight. Top marks to Mal and Barbara and to New Oak for the job.

Good on you Steve, don't they transform the car? I'm no expert at hurtling down the 400 metres but you wouldn't have to be a genius to figure out how much time you pick up eliminating that long walk from 2nd to 3rd

As I said in my post I don't know why they don't just fit them standard. Drivability wise they are the best mod you can get. IMHO

So, what's the best go? I'm slated for the Herrod Sure-Shift but what's the difference in product and cost?

Hi Pete.
Herrod is about $120 more and there has been rumours of notchiness with that one

. The Mal Woods job looks exactly like what FMC put in there in the first place, but man it transforms the car. You can buy Herrods anodised one but you can't see it when its fitted anyway. I reckon the genuine thing forr $100+ less is a better deal

I paid $320 plus $15 overnight postage and $40 for installation. Probably the best $375 I've spent. As Hypnodoc has said, it transforms the car and is a genuine Tremec item, and yes modding is VERY addictive. The list so far is SS CAI, BMC filter, Tremec short throw shifter, SVO twin 2 1/2 inch stainless exhaust and King springs and it doesn't look like I'm about to stop modding.

I realised how much a short shifter was needed back when we had the 1st drag meet at heatchote, nothing more frustrating than getting a good start then getting caught on the 2nd-3rd shift and ending up in 5th or with grinding noises. After driving phantom's XR8 with the shifter I got one put on straight away, 3rd gear can be changed from 2nd as fast as your clutch foot can go in and out

AP, dunno what the differences are between the 2, mine is the herrods shureshift and isnt notchy, they do start off tight but loosen up a bit after a few km's though

Hey Steve, the more you do the better it gets, now you need Pacemakers, Underdrives, A Batten spacer, A Batten thermostat, and a decent clutch. Then you will have a SV8, GTO 300Kw, killer. Ohhhh and it feels so good everytime.
