Apparantly a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) will be released shortly to Ford dealers about problematic Tremec Gearboxes in the XR8/FPV range. The current mobil stuff isn't what tremec recommend but ford decided to put it in anyway as it was probably cheaper than the fully synthetic castrol stuff that is recommended. The TSB will involve replacing the fluid to the synthetic Castrol oil if the gearbox is incurring difficulties in changing gears.
I think I remember someone here saying they spoke to Mal Wood who told them the proper stuff and he got it replaced to the synthetic Castrol oil and it fixed his problem.

hypnodoc had a minor problem with his gearbox and changed his oil to Castrol Transmax Z.
I put the Castrol oil in and noticed smoother gear changing, I had no noticable problems to begin with though, just did it on Mal Woods recommendation.
PS: It's not cheap at $68 for 4 lts.

Yeah, initially I tried REDLINE it was like driving a concrete mixer, so I took the Mal Wood advice and went to Castrol (tremec recommended) made the change much smoother, but the rattle remained. Ordered my clutch & pressure plate & short/shifter from Mal yesterday and he was saying that most the apparent tremec rattle is a actually the crappy standard clutch plate . He reckons between the up graded clutch and the nylon bush on the short/shifter most of the chatter noise will disappear. Then we can have WHISPERING QUIET LETHAL PERFORMANCE I will keep you all posted when these parts are in (next monday)

Thats good, wished they wouldnt cut corners like this as the cost of replacing the oil must be big $$ compared to doing it right the first time.
Wonder if the correct oil eliminates or reduces the third gear rattle also?
Too true, companies should forget on which company has the cheapest tender and go with the one with the better quality. Will end up costing less in the long run
