Re: Underdrive pulleys for ba xr8

Hi Guys,
I am looking to add some mods to the XR8 in the next few weeks(now the warranty is over), i been looking into the underdrives as well, but have had so many different opinions of them I am not sure if it is worth doing now, following this, I was wondering what order you preferance your mods, since I am Perth it is a given that I will go an xtreme tune, but firstly want to add a few bolt on bits. I currently only have a manta exhaust, y pipe back, thinking about changing to a different cats back system, as I only did it on the cheap first time round to add some sound. I know a couple of you blokes are running really good power and definately show the numbers, especially ratter... congrats mate...

Just interested in your thoughts of the impact of each bolt on, I am only looking to spend 4 to 5 grand max, so are thinking alond the lines of CAI(SS or BPT??) helix spacer? Cats back(Herrod??) definately a CAPA flasher, just need to decide if it is worth the extra for the Custom tune or not, These guys seem to be able to weave some good magic, so might be worth the few hundred extra for the custom, also seems to be some debate over the underdrives, especially with the manuals so I am not 100% if I will go that path or not, interested if you think they are really worth the trouble for the ammount of extra power they produce, just don;t want to stuff somehting in a big way, especially not if I have been pre warned about potential damage they may cause.

Have decided to keep the car since it is now paid off, will be the wifes car very soon so I would like to get the stuff done once we sell her car in the next month or two.

Any input would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers
Luke

Re: Underdrive pulleys for ba xr8

As a minimum get the

cold air
snorkel
filter
helix

$1,000

Cats back

$800

Total $1,800 from herrod. Car has sharper bottom end, sounds awesome and has an induction noise that's brilliant.

Re: Underdrive pulleys for ba xr8

Herrods stuff appears to be over priced for the results it gives.

Get a blue power cold air box, it leaves the SS induction for dead in performance and induction noise.
A difillipo cats back, but extractors and cats would give better results, cats back normally only give a s,all increase in power, but make it sound better.
A custome tune will work a lot better than a generic tune but also cost another $500

Re: Underdrive pulleys for ba xr8

Thanks Guys,
Well Tuesday the Manta mufflers are coming off and a new diffillipo stanless system is going in, 4 into 1 extractors, 2 1/2" custom cats back, Will get the Modified Airbox for cold air, have the BMC already so thats going in as well, considering the MAF tube from airbox to throtlebody, seems like an easy couple of KW.

Can't wait till Tuesday now, hopefully the beast will now have a roar... Clutch might struggle a bit as feeling a bit worn these days :(

Cheers
Luke

Re: Underdrive pulleys for ba xr8

Should be good once it's done.

Just a comparison on price for the air intake system

ss induction kit for XR8 $430 (approx)
BMC air filter $190 (approx)
Snorkel kit to T/body $260 (approx)

total is $880 (approx) and then labour to fit

The Bluepower cold air box comes complete with all components to join it to the T/body and is $600 (plus freight) and works better than the SS unit

Well its all on and all I can say is WHY didn't I do it years ago (oh yeah.. I had no cash ) The sound is absolutely awesome
Ended up with the Pacemaker extractors, Mandrel bent 2 1/2 inch stainless from cats back. The car has alot more throttle response now, lots more low down, i think it will keep getting better once I have a few more k's on the clock, but so far very impressed with the results, sounds how it should off the bloody factory.. like a real V8

The Cold air box modified cost $260 installed and as stated I already had the BMC, all that is needed is the snorkel kit to T/b and should do me for now. Also claims that the car should get an extra 50 - 100 k's off a tank, i sure hope so as it will pay itself off pretty quick if that is the case, somehow I don't think so as I keep putting the boot in to hear the note

Probably the greatest improvement for me is that there is no drone at all, put the foot down, full noise, take it off, just road noise. The guys did a bloody great job of it and for once I am completely happy with the money spent, worth Every cent.

Cheers
