I have got a few questions regarding the Boss 260-290.
How many km has your Boss clocked up
Does the Boss like to rev pass 5500rpm
Does the Boss Motor have as much top end speed as the GEN III V8
What modes have you done to it.
The reason I am asking these question is because I want to know how the Boss 260-290 motor s go after wearing in.
Daves8 . Does the motor go alot better now than when you first bought it. I bet the car sounds really nice. Motor mag keep on saying that the Boss motor dont like to rev. I dont know what they are on about.
I've done 8000 k's now and the difference between now and when I picked it up is like night and day. They feel like slugs when new and really need at least 3000k's before they really start to loosen up but it keeps getting better up until what i've done now. The exhaust note keeps getting better too. You could barely hear it at idle when I first got it but it sounds pretty beefy now, although it could always be louder. They love to rev too, really seems to come on past 3500rpm.
I've done nearly 12500km's in my xr8 ute and it's loosened up a lot since new. It really revs up quickly, and especially in 1st you find yourself having to grab cogs quickly to avoid hitting the limiter. It really hits another level once you past 4000rpm till just about when the limiter comes in, and the feeling is great, especially winding out in 2nd and 3rd!
As far as relative top end speed compared with the GEN 3, i can go from experience on the LS1 cruise nights i regularly go on. The LS1's are a bloody fast engine once they get into their rev range and dont back off. If they have edit done it takes the disadvantage they have stock away which is lack of low down torque.
The note to the Boss engines are one of the best i've heard. They are pretty good stock, but a decent exhaust mod will really bring out the grunty sound of it.
I think the Boss 260/290 will be a bit like good wine- better with age!

I went past 20,000K's on the weekend whilst returning from the Gold Coast back to Sydney, the car changed yet again and all you guys with less K's have something again to look forward too, it seems to have remapped as I have heard suggested before. On the trip up and until I passed 20,000k's the car was doing 12.3l/100 average for each tank, after the 20,000ks I filled up and that tank did 10.6l/100 until I got back home, that is amazing from a 330+kw engine. Like all Boss engines it loves to get to the rev limiter very quickly and just ask the AUIII Pursuit Ute Guy with the 300+kw sticker on the back how much quicker the GT goes from 110 to 170 than the windsor, made him look a little stupid, he stuffed around speeding up and slowing down in front and everytime he moved over and I went to go past at a modest speed he accelerated off like a dick head then back to 100-115 in the 110 zone giving me the shits, so after the 4th time I slowed as I started to pass and he looked at me and started to accelerate and I floored it and left him 2 car lengths back at 170, then I let go as there was traffic in front of us but he wanted to get back past so kept going, then he settled back in front thinking he was king shit but the point had been made and he kept a constant speed of 120 after that until Newcastle where I went Pacific and he went New England

I have 21,500 ks up now and The 290 has never gone harder!... I did not feel any noticable change at 20,000 though. 10,000 definately did!
I'll agree with that Charliewool, I didn't feel any change at 20,000, at least it wasn't like the change at 10,000 which was easily noticed, but the fuel economy change was very evident and it idles better, whether the car now knows that the Herrod Exhaust has been fitted and has changed the idle timing as the exhaust got fitted at 14,000, I don't know but the idle and fuel economy are much better
