Just had my first service today and they put Mobil1 in it, as they were paying for it(part of the deal when i bought it) but i don't know what i will use next time, as they charge it out at $17.50 per litre. Might buy my own in bulk and take it when it gets serviced
Yeah i think it is a good idea to change the oil and filter every 5000ks .I tend to be fussy like most others lol
Cheers John

Changed oil out at 3000km's and refilled with Castrol Formula R 0w/40. From what I have been told due to our warm climate 5w oil is fine for the Boss 290 (and about $20 cheaper for 5lts). However if I can get 0w/40 bulk for a good price I'll stick to that!

Mine is still under oil watch, we have done an oil change at 10500k mark in an attempt to slow the consumption down. It now has Mobil S 10w 40, a little thicker than mobil 1. It did 2000k pretty quick and looked like it had slowed the burn down, 600ml for 2000k, that was the best its done. It now is approaching another 1000k and it looks not good, probably will take another 600ml. I have asked FPV if I can put another grade thicker in, in an attemp to stop it burning. I was told the engineers only recomend a 0w 40 oil.
As im getting tired of dealer visits, im not sure if my currant engine will make it, at 15000k, it will have to be looked at prety seriously.
GT522,
Has your dealer spoken to FPV regarding the oil usage. Seem's that this is draging out a bit. who told the dealer to use a thicker grade oil, or was that there idea. You know the story with my car, never was it suggested to use a thicker grade oil by FPV. What are they doing to you. Ring me to talk about this. My new motor is using castrol R 0w/40
When i had my first car as a student (datsun 180b) thats all i could afford, and it killed my car within 6 months!!!! How the hell these guys are allowed to sell that shite is beyond me.
I use generally what the dealer recommends during the service. Should i be paying extra for a better quality oil - or is that a waste of money?
I think what the dealers use is ok and most of them use Castrol R Syn.that seems to be oil they are using due to sponsorhip with the oil company.
Cheers John
