Why the excess charging for things like brakes?

Example for comparison. The new Nissan 350Z has an 'upgrade' to race spec - 18" instead of 17" wheeels (this does include tyres of course), PLUS BREMBO brakes instead of proper performance brakes (note Ford 'performance brakes' on rear are grooved standard rotors and standard 1 (single) piston caliper). Also other mods in package to differentiate from original 350Z.
Price for this Nissan package? Total of NZD3000.
Price for Ford upgrade? Well on XR $2000 for wheels, Brembos not available. On Gt 18" standard, but brembos almost A$6000.
Why so much when other car makers offer for so little?

PS - and the GT rear rotors are not Brembo items, but made by DBA in Australia, so must be cheaper to buy than a genuine Brembo rotor?

My guess:

1) Nissan will sell more Z cars than Ford will sell GTs so maybe they secured a better deal with the supplier.

2) Maybe Ford have a higher markup on their brakes/wheels to recoup money lost by cutting the RRP to get people in the door.

Ford may be our brand but they are still a commercial company interested in profits above all else.

Why are their brembos more expensive?
The simple reason is people who buy the GT are willing to pay that price for the extra stopping power.

A better deal with the supplier would not account for these things being less then half the price on a Z car.

Why would anyone option Brembos for the GT? They come standard on the GT-P. If you got all the GT options which the GT-P has standard then you'd be paying almost the same and still wouldnt have climate control and whatever else. GT-P also looks better IMO.

I still have nightmares over having paid that much for the Brembos on the Pursuit. However, all it takes is a press on the brake pedal to KNOW you can't go back. Ever. Never ever.

Then of course there's the way they look behind the wheels......
