At 615am crossing the Victorian border into the CAN River, it happened.
Blind corner, doing 100kph.
BANG.
1 adult wombat versus a GTP with fibreglass front end.
It could never end in happiness.
No posts on the side of the road were hurt during the writting of this story. My appologies to the ACT subbranch of the FPV-Tickford Club of NSW as I probably will not be able to make the next meeting.
The amazing part of this story.... While the cosmetic damage was huge, the structural damage is zero. I did not even do a wheel alignment even though I hit a wombat with my left wheel at 100kph! What a car!!
I would like to add a comment about no wombats being injured in this story, unfortunately, that would be a lie. We removed him from the road (so noone else would hit him) and I believe he was already dead as he was lying on the road already. Must have been a truck as there was no other car or car parts around at the time.
Car goes into AAMI tomorrow morning and I will post damage report when known.
Rest in piece.
Scotty and GTP-0285

Sorry to hear that mate, did I mention the safety features of the GT-P when I sold it to you? no point now that you have put them to the test! I hope it's back on the road soon, and my experience with AAMI lately would suggest that all will be well.
Regards.....

That's two cars I have heard of that have hit wombats, luckily no one was killed or injured. Maybe we need a cull???

I just missed a wombat in my Pursuit - actually side swiped him so I guess he got a sore behind from it because after pulling up a fair way down the road I went back to look for him and no wombat. I knew where he was because I followed my grass mowing track back to where I left the road (this was in the days where Brembo brakes on a ute were intermittent).
I've hit a wombat in a truck and it hit so hard it threw me up into the seatbelt locker. They're like boulders! The only saving grace for you was that it had probably been hit before and 'softened up'. I've seen a car after a fresh hit and there's no way you drive away.

Good old wombats. Have the density of a granite boulder and the ability to rip wheels out of cars. Says a lot that the GT survived with no or minimal structural damage!
