and that is a typical American reaction, ive done it, shown Americans the GT and such, and they love it, wishing it would come to the States. I think Ford Aus know they have the potential, but the money is the problem. Getting the Barra right here first is better than getting it sold in the states i think.

yus we do not have a decent car here. SOrry to say that, but it is true. Everyone wants a freaking SUV that is the rage. next it will be back to station wagons. It is disgusting. If you dont drive an SUV or soccermom mobile then you are shat around here.
Umm... I noticed that they want it to be called a Mercury. I thought that's exactly what we Don't want...

The Capri was called Mercury in the U.S.. The has been largely blamed for its poor sales there, due to poor promotion and poor perception of Mercurys compared to Fords. This could have changed though, but all the same I think 'Ford Falcon' has a better ring to it.

It was placed under the Mercury badge, which is "supposed to be" an upscale badge from Ford. The Capri was still called the Capri. It was not accepted well over here due to several factors.
1. It replaced a car that was called the Capri that a few years earlier was basically a spin off of the 5.0 mustang. Same engine same interior same frame just a little different body panels. This new one had a few cylinders missing and was small. Smaller than what we were expecting.
2. We thought that the quality of the Fords here were bad. The capri that was sent here was touted as the all mighty car. Australian built and with Aussie quality. The car had more problems than a Yugo.
That pretty much sums it up for why we did not like it here.
