Ford have discovered that the 2003 Mustang Cobra may be fitted with defective engine cylinder heads.

The Ford Motor Company internal memo notes that the Cobras may exhibit an unusual engine noise that is present at all temperature ranges during engine idle. The memo goes on to state that the noise may be due to bad cylinder head valve guides in the left hand cylinder head. The noise may be heard at the rear of the left hand cylinder head, through the left side exhaust or at the left front wheel of the vehicle.

This is not currently under a recall notice, so if your Cobra experiences this problem have your vehicle inspected as soon as possible.

If your car suffers from this problem contact Ford and ask to have the cylinder head and cam assembly replaced with the updated cylinder head part number 3R2Z-6049-GA.

Dam I can't find the forum that I read this and I don't know if its true but it said if you have blue heads you have the new heads that they are replacing. I hope this is so because I just noticed my heads are blue on the inside toward the SC.

I wish someone knew if there is a bad head or not I have little tick but I think it goes away once warmed I might try some STP and see it its not a lifter least it work for one of my old cars it cleared it right up or dam it I'll just drive it and if it lets go then I'll have a court date to find out.

if it was a prob withthe heads you would be hearing it cold and warm.

I have a 2003 Convertible Cobra and so far after 4000 miles I have to say the car has to many issue. I been to the shop 4 times, once for the alternator, twice for a blown heater hose and now a BLOWN Cylinder Head. What is the rules with the Lemon Law?? I think I need a new car from Ford!!
Does anyone have these kind of problems??

shit guys i had ford do the alternator for me when i had 15000 miles on her. now 74506 miles an 2 more alternators on me and one inter cooler pump an rear damper one rear hub bearing i still love my TERMINATOR

Could this also be a problem with the 1996 Cobra? I've had the lifters replaced twice & I still have a "knocking" noise. The mechanic is stumped. I only have 85K miles.
