Hello all, my head unit does bugger all when I turn it on, no radio, no CD function, the only sign of life is the red load light is on all the time.
The bastard is out of warranty so I am looking for any ideas on how to sort it out(without resorting to large hammers or other destructive devices)

OK, problem appears to have been solved without resorting to blunt instruments or weapons of any kind. I pulled the 2 radio fuses from the fuse box near the ignition key and the 6 stacker began to eject the CDs, I then entered the code and viola! it works!
Hi guys, I had the same problem with my AUII XR8 a couple of months ago. I drove it the night before to pick up some take out. Everything was just fine. Walked past the next morning and the light was on. Had me a bit confused, and yes, nothing worked, it just sat there like a you know what. I actually pulled the head unit out and unplugged it, then hooked it back up and everything was sweet. Really weird seeing as though it has been fine ever since. Makes you wonder when ford are going to pull there finger out and install some quality components in their cars. I bet they are spending a lot more money replacing/fixing things than just spending that little extra from the outset and installing quality. And I am not just talking about head units. Can also include diffs, sensors, plastic trims, etc etc etc. I could be here all day. But saying that, I would still buy a BA or whatever its replacement will be.

My thoughts exactly... my old 6 stacker was a absolute night mare.
Hence why i gave it the flick and installed a JVC Deck, and still kept my controllers on the steering wheel, its one of those luxury you cannot part with.
But i believe the original decks do have problems with burnt CD's.
So yer if you get the chance, upgrade your head-units. And remeber JVC is the only type which allows you to keep the steering wheel controllers.

i read somewhere that alpine make an adapter for the steering controls to work with their headunits. Also there is one available (not sure who makes it) to work with pioneer head units as well
