This is one for all you BA owners out there and anybody else who wants to throw in their 2c. If I decide to get a BA XR, is the premium sound really worth it - especially since I'd be throwing in some better speakers in later. Now the color screen on the premium looks really good and the 6 disc stacker would be useful, but I don't know if i'd be able to justify the money, especially since I'd be getting rid of the speakers/amp anyway. Opinions please - don't hold back, but keep it cleanish ok?
BTW, what speaker sizes can you get in the front/rear. I've heard 5x7s in the front, but also heard of somebody getting 6.5" in the front also. Would you need pods for 6.5s?

IMO get premium sound. The colour screen gives you greater scope for "add ons"
at a later date. I have premium sound and have upgraded the front door speakers and in the process of upgrading amp anf sub.
Id say go for the premium sound for the colour screen. I didn't and just had my stereo upgraded and having a dvd player hooked up to the colour screen would have been sweet.
Prermium sound is the way to go, and dont be to hastie to chuck out the amp, speakers yes by all means, except the woofer keep it. I changed the speakers ( all ten of them) for Bostons, (expensive exercise) how ever the sound is fantastic. I am looking at adding sat nav shortly.

So you still get good punchy bass with the woofer and amp? BTW, with the bostons, you'd have them connected to another amp wouldn't you? If yes, where did you end up putting it?

I just bought a BA SR Falcon. The one with the $6000 worth of extra's for 500 bucks.
Whilst I am stoked with the car overall, I am still trying to work out if I've been gipped.
The salesman told me I was getting the premium sound system.
What I got was a six stack CD (Not too bad on the sound, I might add!) and a cut down screen which I believe is in the standard XT's.
I went back and asked him again this morning and he said that the premium sound is in it as can be told by the 6 stacker.
He told me there is only one better sound system, the PRESTIGE sound system and that is in the Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia's.
Ford really screwed up as I would gladly have paid more for the Prestige system anyway.
So, to cut a long story short, if what I have IS the Premium sound then I reckon it is worthwhile, but next time around I'll be shelling out the bucks for the Prestige system!
My XR6T has premium sound which includes colour screen.I think you will find that you may have a version of prestige sound. My company car is a BA fairmont and it has the prestige sound. Which is the 6 stacker cd four speakers, 2 tweeters and non colour screen (large).
Kingy, no the only changes were the 10 speakers, the amp I left in it. and the deck and amp powers them perfectly. Strong base resposne, and very clear highs. In fact I have the balance and fader set to the front 4 and left 3, and you are in the middle of some great sound.

The crap I have in my car IS NOT a Premium Sound system.
I am off to the dealer on Monday for some answers!!!
I am really mad as I went back today and was told enphatically that I had a Premium sound System, but it only has 4 speakers, no sub-woofer, small LCD and in my book that is not a Premium Sound System.
Somebody is telling me porky pies.
I feel sorry for these guys, they don't know me. I'm like a terrier with this sort of thing and will not rest until I get results....I don't care who pays!
