Hey fellas i have just bought a MK II xr8 and the insurance company insist's i need an aftermarket alarm fitted. Now i am wondering that if they say i have to does this mean that the standard one is poo and is easily bypassed if Yes how easy. What would people reccomend as far as a decent alarm goes, i asked about quicktrac or the likes but they couldnt care and it wouldnt lower my premium so why bother. Any help would be great.

You should have just ordered the car with a factory alarm, less hassles and you use the original keypad.All under warranty as well.
If you buy an aftermarket alarm, im pretty sure Ford wont touch the security system if it stuffs up.

Im not sure the insurance company would be happy with the factory alarm. So he new cars dont have any form of alarm then.

From what I know the Ford alarm is integrated into the body computer, and the center ICC console needs to come out, ( I saw mine out when they fitted to my ba xr8) and seeing this is a handle with care area, I feel that Ford for warranty sake and piece of mind, is their area only. Find another insurer!!!!

Not really an option fining another insurer i had enough trouble getting the premium to a respectable amount that im willing to pay. But will try and see if they will accept the factory option alarm.

It was mentioned a while ago that the ford alarms are not that good, just a rebadged version of something else.There are plenty of aftermarket units, I am looking at one of the ones that will dial your mobile.
