CD head unit with aux in? - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Folks,
can anyone recommend a CD head unit that has aux in, either via rca in the back of the unit or a phone-jack on the front? I've got myself an iPod and want to hook it up to the car stereo setup but don't have a tape deck in the car nor the iTrip FM transmitter. My current CD head unit needs upgrading as it has trouble with CDR and skips like crazy even with normal CDs and simple road bumps.

I know there are others in here who'll be asking the same question so looking forward to any and all responses.

Fabiank - nice post. Welcome to the forums where we strive to help each other!

The first link is extremely useful if you had an Audi TT. As this is Ford Forums, I'm guessing XR6T is probably looking for help that would suit a stereo in a falcon, and it actually sounds like he already has an aftermarket one anyway! Good attempt at help here.

XR6T, sorry can't help, except to suggest that the Pioneer DEH-P3550MP has the aux input capability - but I think you then have to buy a seperate wiring loom to use this feature. I'm not sure if it's compatible with the iPod, but you're local autobarn, JB hi-Fi etc should be able to help.

FabianK, thanks for the reply. That head unit was exactly what I'm after but I've found a cheaper way to do this, actually only cost me $3.

A few years back I installed an Alpine 2 channel amp and pioneer 6x9 3 ways in the rear parcel shelf to go with my Sony CD deck. Now, I don't listen to the radio at all and my CD collection is now on my ipod. So I just disconnected the RCAs from the Sony Head and plugged in a 3.5mm -> RCA cable from my ipod to the Apline Amp itself. voila. Works a charm and sounds fantastic and using the volume control on the ipod is just a joy.

It's got 6GB of music on there already and 24GB free. At almost 1500 songs I would have to drive for 8 days straight to listen to them all.

Now my next project is to build a nice little bracket mount to dock the ipod in while driving. too easy.

You can buy an iPod car kit, it's very similar to a phone car kit and incorporates a FM modulator, probably pricey but definately looks the goods!

AU, yeah I looked at the iTrip but all reports I've raid say the signal quality is not that great and you lose the dynamic range of the music itself. Linking the pod direct to the amp sounds awesome, probably better than my CD head unit was producing. I'm impressed with this little cable setup, that'll do for me for now.

Bugger, must be a crappy FM modulator, bit of a shame really.
