ED Futura Head Unit

Hi everyone, as a newbie i have three questions. I am getting an ED futura in a few weeks, and i have the oppurtunity to buy a head unit for it now. So, the first question is, will a normal pioneer H/U fit in the dash? second question is, are the colours of wires a "standard", meaning they are the same for most cars? if not, how can each speaker wire be told apart?

Thanks a lot,

Re: ED Futura Head Unit

A single DIN head unit will fit into the standard radio slot. DIN is the industry standard size which pioneer would comply to. To do the job first you'll need a security bit screw driver set. I got one from tandy for 15 bucks. The orriginal HU comes with a security head so you'll need these to get it out.

The easiest way to get all the wires matching is to buy a harness ofr a 93 Falcon. Its just a plug that converts the generic outlet of the new HU to the existing wiring configuration in the car. Supercheap auto should have one or be able to get one in, so should strathfield/brisbane car sound.

If you want to just wire it directly into the car's sound system loom, buy some Y shaped electrical connecters, and crimp them onto the wires comming out of the plug supplied with the head unit. You should be able to find a wiring diagram on fordmods.com or just google it.
