EL Fairmont custom boot install

hey guys,

tomorrow i will be picking up my new car a 96 EL fairmont from the car yard :).

i want to install my existing stereo components into the boot the proper way and make it look good. i have a small and a large amp and 2 10'' subs to go into the boot.

does anyone have any pics or web sites that can give me some ideas.

Re: EL Fairmont custom boot install

I've had an amp mounted on the rear of the back seat (the smaller one). It looks fantastic and is accessible. I don't need the space for carrying things so it's all good. The only reason why I'll recommend you don't mount amps here is the difficulty with cables. It is easy to get the cables (especially thick pwr and earth cables) stuck between the seats when tilting one or the other down. You may be able to tie them up so that they don't foul the other seat however. Also you'll need some cunning to get them neatly feeding under the boot carpet. Because you've got subs, just mount a box in the rear firing into the cabin and mount the amps on the back of it. Look at rollin's install on his cardomain site (EB XR6) http://www.cardomain.com/id/falconxr6

Re: EL Fairmont custom boot install

I too am redoing my boot install, my old install was as you just described, but I'm thinking of doing it the other way around, subs facing backwards & amps on the front, or on the side of the boot somewhere, hopefully to get a bit more oomph out of the subs.

Excuse the nasty res (was actually taking these photos of my cargo net when I put it in) but here you can see my coustic and the cable nightmare I've had for a while because i haven't been able to fit them all neatly yet!

This is not really even big enough to be called a stereo install... I'm still using the factory premium sound with stacker, factory sub and factory rear amp

Re: EL Fairmont custom boot install

Perhaps fibre glass your spare wheel well, screw and MDF baffle over the top and install your subs in there?? That's what I did with mine, that way, the ski port is left open, so when you put the seats down all that glorious bass can travel into the cabin :) Also, put some grills over the top, and you'll still have all your boot space left for your shopping :)
