I have a question about the number of speakers in an EL with the premium audio system, and no one, not even the Ford guys, can tell me the answer.

The Ford sales brochures say that the premium audio has "9 individual speaker elements".

I can only count 7... 4 in front and 3 on the parcel shelf. Even the wiring schematics in the factory service manuals only show 7.

Can anyone tell me where the other 2 are, cos id be damned if I could find them. Or is Ford lying...

i think you will find ford count each door speake and the two parcel shelf speakers as two each as they are dual cone then you have the sub and the two tweeters

I thought about that as well, but that would mean the car had 11 speaker elements all up, which is more than they say.

A typo in the brochure perhaps - wouldn't be the first time!

I believe that the rear speakers are co-axil, not dual cone. If they are co-axil then they can be counted each as two speakers (a mid range and a tweeter in one). The door speakers are dual cone and are only counted as one.

Therefore in theory you have Five "speakers" in the parcel shelf including the sub and four speakers up front, in total, 9 speakers!

Thanks for that. You are right, I never even thought of that.

I quick check last night confirmed it.

I want to replace all the speakers in the car, and now I know what I have to replace them with.
