Ok, just wonderning what do they mean when Ford says that teh Futura gets a 40w Stereo. Is 40w the overall power ie 10w a speaker if theres 4 speakers or is it 40w x 4.

Its probably a measly 10W per speaker.... and i wouldn't bet on it being an RMS figure.
RMS is the continuous power handling of the deck/amplifier. Most figures that are thrown around by people are the PMPO (peak) power figures. Most of the units that quote these cant deliver that power for a 10th of a second before they die.
Yeah i did mate, gotta say it sounds a heap better than my one but just trying to nut out how Ford rate their stereo's.

Odds are it can put out 40w RMS maximum, split amongst however many speakers in the car (6 in the futura?). Ford usually advertise RMS, whereas plenty of other places advertise PMPO. If it was 40w PMPO, then you've got 6 very weak speakers, no matter how they are setup.
The factory speakers in falcons (pioneer i think) are usually fairly loud, so I'd say it's 40w RMS. But I doubt it would be 40w x 4.
Can anyone correct me?

Yeah could be right, gotta say stock for stock the ford stereo sounds better than other brands. Well if it's right then i've upgraded from 25w RMS to 60w RMS.

I think its just the rating of the head unit. 40W is the power that the head unit pumps into the speakers. This 40W is likely to be max so RMS would most likely be 17-20W.
Did you know that for every double in wattage you only get a few dB increase in volume. Eg - going from 20w to 40w you only get 2-5dB increase in loudness.
