A few Questions

I was wondering what would be a good amp to power my Pioneer 10 inch subs. It says that the nominal power for each sub is 350w, so that means I would at least need a 700w amp, is that correct? Does anyone know a good amp to use for these subs, I thought Alpine may be a good choice, but for that size would be expensive? Also, I have a Pioneer DEH 2550 HU, and a 2 channel Pioneer amp to power my fronts. I can run two amps of this HU cant I? And a final question, running two amps, would I need to get a better altenator for the extra power getting used, or will the standered be able to cope? Thanks

Re: A few Questions

ummm 2 amps will be fine on the alternator believe u me. secondly ur deck must have 2 preouts of u want two amps unless u use the speaker cable input on the amp most or if the amp has an output channel. anywhere between 250-350 rms u can ever go lower if u want

Re: A few Questions

Exactly what he said /\/\/\ lol

Whenever looking at power figures, always go by RMS value, which in your case is right.. Alpines are very good amps for the price, I recommend them over most mainstream brands and should not be considered "expensive" for the power your getting. There are many different configurations in which to hook up your subs, each providing a diffenent load on the amp, and in turn will affect the power your feeding to them. Best bet is to seek advice from some pro's as they have most likely sampled alot of amps and will recommend the best suited for you.

Depending on were bouts in melbourne you live, I found freeway car audio in Dandenong to be a very honest specialist in car audio and will not try and push products on to you. Mainstream stores aren't the most honest in my experience and will often bullshit and push you to buy one particular brand that they are sponsored by.

I've gone in to Freeway and chatted for half an hour at a time about car audio and often don't even buy anything. They will go into incredible detail about how one speaker/amp is different to another, wereby you'll have a much more educated decision when buying products. One mainstream store, yellow in color I forget the name (wink wink nudge nudge lol) have told me outrageous claims, including one of my favourites
"yer these subs are pulling 193db in the states!", when the known world record is 177.7db, about 2.5 times lower then what they claimed lol

The only real problem you'll find with daisy wiring your RCA's form one preout is that you won't be able to individually control each amps settings unless you have an external device to do so. I actually daisy wire my RCA's as my other two preouts have blown channels. I have two amps and if you have your settings at the amp set correctly, you won't ever really notice it...

Re: A few Questions

Subwoofers are fairly non critical as far as amps are concerned, particularly if the sub enclosure is well built and the drivers are well damped in that enclosure.
If it's just for your own listening pleasure and you're not interested in beating your mates then one amp producing 100w per channel is very likely more than enough.
If you're intentions are competition orientated, then knock your self out and throw several hundred watts at them.
Just remember every doubling of power (watts) is only 3dB louder, and 200w of power driving 2 x 10" drivers is plenty in a car.

The rated power limits of a driver are typically the thermal limits of the voice coil, however feeding a 10" woofer 350w at 20hz will kill it in seconds as the excursion limit is likely only 50w at 20hz, depending on the drivers Xmax.

BTW, there is no problem driving 2 (or more) amplifiers off the one set of RCA's.

Rick.

EDFPV-6 -
How much money would you like to bet that I can destroy your subwoofers with a 100w amp............

Re: A few Questions

I went to the CAA site, and they recommend I use a Coustic 401DB Monoblock amp to power my subs. I haven’t heard much about this brand, so I was wondering what you guys think?
