Unfortunately I've recently had to sell me EF Fairmont Ghia due to technical problems and I have a quick car audio related question relating to my new car (which I won't name here for fear of getting in some serious trouble).

The new car I have brought has a basic tuner/cassette with controls for the stereo on the steering wheel. I'd like to avoid changing the original head unit if I can so I can still use the wheel controls. I'd like a CD player though so I was considering the stackers that have FM modulation.

Has anyone used this format before? Is there much of a difference in sound quality?

Enquiring minds need to know.

Generally with FM modulators, you do lose some quality due to the limitations of the FM bandwidth.

If you definately want to go down this track, id recommend the alpine stacker and fm modulator, you will get better sound quality from one of these than a cheaper brand.

You can get stinger adapters which will make the steering wheel buttons work with most headunits that have a remote control function, however this is around $250, combined with a head unit ($300-$400). It depends how much you can pick up a stacker and fm modulator for.
